Tax Efficient Investments

‘MONEY IS LIKE A SIXTH SENSE WITHOUT WHICH YOU CANNOT MAKE A COMPLETE USE OF THE OTHER FIVE’ W. SOMERSET MAUGHAM

You want your investments to grow and to bring you an income, but at the same time, wise investments can help reduce your tax bill. On the one hand you maximise your income, on the other you minimise your tax liability.

What are tax-efficient investments?

There are a number of tax-efficient investments we can look at and, again, your personal circumstances will dictate which ones best suit you.

Wise investments include some options which will be familiar, such as a tax wrapper.

A tax wrapper is a financial product – likes a pension, bond or ISA – within which your investments can be held and which usually has certain tax benefits.

Other wise investments include life protection or critical illness cover. You might consider investments that don’t incur Capital Gains Tax, such as gilts or corporate bonds.

Premium bonds, children’s bonds, junior ISAs and child trust funds are all tax-efficient investments to consider, again depending on your personal circumstances.

At Hartsfield, we now generally suggest our clients opt for an ‘investment platform’. A bit like a supermarket, you’re still investing in a variety of products but they are held all in one place. You get convenience, choice, value for money and – with easy online access – you can keep a close and careful eye on how your portfolio is performing.

If you would like some advice on tax-efficient investing, the team here at Hartsfield can help. Please get in touch.
